CLUB NEWS
The theme of our May Fund Raiser – Fun match was the adventures of Hopalong Cassidy, but I think everyone will agree that it was Topper, Hoppy’s faithful white steed, that captured everyone’s attention. With eighteen sidekicks to help Hoppy round up the bad guys in the town of Deadwood, lead was flying as shooters relived six episodes of Hopalong Cassidy movies from the Cooper vault of cinematography. In the future we plan to add more props and interesting shooting scenarios so that your cowboy shooting experience will be fun and exciting.
A special thanks to Old Paul, Cole Trigger, and Cypress Jack McKay through Southern Speciality and Supply, Inc., for their cash donations. And, a cowboy thanks to Cross Bar, T Joe, Doc Spudley, Louisiana Cuz, and Klondike, whose help in preparation and running the match was greatly appreciated.
And last, but most important; A six gun salute to all the members and non-members who came to Deadwood, and shared the day shootin’ up bad guys. Also, it was nice to see some cowboys that haven’t been around lately and we hope they’ll come back soon. To everyone, we surely do thank you for your participation and support.
As I have mentioned before and will continue to mention for the benefit of new members, Noose News will be open to anyone who wishes to post information or comments. Items for sale can also be listed. All you will need to do is e-mail the information to me and it will be posted. However, remember that the Border Vigilantes web site is updated only once a month.

First let me say Thank You to all those that attended our fun/fund raiser match in May. Six great stages and we were real lucky with the weather. The new props were great especially the horse. I really do hope everyone appreciates the hard work and effort it took to build him. I think we owe Louisiana Cuz and Cooper York a BIG thank you for their work. I cannot leave out Cypress Jack McKay for his efforts in obtaining us a nice $150 donation from Southern Specialties, one of his vendors; they have been helpful to us for several years. Also a BIG thank you to Old Paul for his extra contribution. The side matches seemed to be enjoyed by all, if you have any suggestions, get back to me or Cooper York and let us know what you think, if you enjoyed it, we would like to hear that too. Also congratulations to Macon A Longshot on winning the Wild Bunch sidematch. I asked for things that you would like to see discussed by the TG’s. I have not heard anything back yet. Here are some things that are being kicked around.
Age/Category Shopping: People can now shoot down in age based category. (I.e. Age 60 can still shoot 49er or even Wrangler.) Is this fair? Forces Cowboys for example to shoot other category previous World Champion who may just be shopping for a win. Propose: If you shoot in an age-based category, you must shoot in the actual category to which you belong. If we protect older shooters from younger shooters should we not also protect younger shooters from older shooters. We will discuss again at EoT. Also, some discretion will apply for Match Director to combine categories if not enough people signed up to make a class. Needs more discussion.
Overall Winner would not win his or her respective category, they would be the Overall Winner, allowing someone else to win that particular category, in many cases giving someone a chance to maybe win for the first time. I have personally seen this at a lot of matches around the country, and it is well received. I also think it only works when you have enough shooters in a category to matter, and at an annual shoot.
Even with the article by Tex seemingly promoting more categories based on age, it appears this will not be happening. Calculations were made and there would be 62 classes, so I don’t think that will happen in the near future, if ever. There should also be an article coming out in the Chronicle, by Pale Wolf Brunnele, in the near future discussing the painting of sights, what is legal and what is not, so watch for that, I think it will answer a lot of questions.
Remember; keep your powder dry and the front sight on target. Klondike TG/VP
